We are so excited to unveil Riz Kids – our family nonprofit – focused on providing educational, physical, emotional, and/or financial assistance to families and children in Washington, D.C. who need it most.

Why Riz Kids? Why D.C.? Why Now? As our first blog entry, I wanted to add some insight into our process in creating this foundation.

As you can read in Mike’s letter (here), Washington, D.C. is an incredibly special place for our family. No matter the circumstance – this town, the fanbase, our neighbors – everyone has been supportive of Mike and his vision and passion for success for our beloved Washington Nationals. I have personally watched hundreds of fans throughout the years stop Mike at the grocery store, at a restaurant, or at a Capitals game, just to say “hi!” and show love. We have been fortunate to spend nearly two decades in D.C., and it is nearly impossible for me to fathom the support and appreciation being better in any other town.

So why Riz Kids? We are committed to being a part of the solution. We recently welcomed our son, Sonny, and he serves as our inspiration in leaving this world in a better place than we found it. We vowed to make a substantial, long-term commitment to make a difference in our community, a community that has given our family so very much over the past 18 years. We want to show Sonny the importance of giving back and helping others. Every child deserves an equal opportunity to shine like Mike and I had growing up in Chicago, Ill., and Fremont, Ohio, respectively.

The time is now. Our goal is simple. Provide educational opportunities to youth through scholarship opportunities, empower local organizations working daily to positively impact the lives of children and families in The District, and have some fun along the way through the game we love so very much.

We are so happy you’re here.

Stay tuned!
